the final date for the documentary tax was June 30, 1902, not 1901!

The documentary tax in general yes, but specifically the 2-cent tax on back checks ended on June 30, 1901, from all resources and "last day of tax" uses I've been able to uncover.

Frank and I had a conversation regarding the Yellow Aster Mining Co. checks, dated June 30, 1901, which was a Sunday, a non-banking day. So technically the check I posted was the "last business day" of the check tax.
