Saw this at a local auction for a sawbuck so figured it was worth a shot. Date seems ok and no postage due markings anywhere but to me it seems like something was removed from the cover at the top center?
While the missing part of the cancel does appear to have a sharp border like there was a stamp there, is there even enough space for a stamp in that area?
It's a typical legit illegitimate use, which frequently got by without postage due, especially if canceled by machine. Earlier issues seemed to be assessed postage due more frequently, at least per my myopic observation.
There is no "held for postage" handstamp, which would help with the idea that it is genuine, rather than having a stamp removed. That was a common occurrence as well as postage due.
