1920 2¢ Red Washington Type Help

Hello! I found this collectors card with notes & this stamp in it.

I think I've narrowed the words down to "V with P??"... Pug? Pay? R? lol I have no clue. I think in general it is a Scott # 528 - VII (5.2), but that one word scribbled at the top makes me want to ask my experts (AKA y'all)!

NOTE: I did also notice a red ink dot in the 'O' of "POSTAGE" at the top, but I'm not sure if that's what the original owner was referring to or not.

I think your writing says: "Check with Ray" or "Check with Rog"......

I'll agree with your ID of 528, Type Va. I don't know what the collector or dealer thought (s)he had, but the perforated offset prints are common if used, and a few have CV's of a buck or a few bucks, and the 528 is $.40. Nothing in Scott shows anything like the $300 for a used 528.

Looks like a Type I to me.

My advice is to ignore most labels applied by previous collectors (or at a minimum, "trust but verify")

I interpret the start of the label as "V with Ray" (or Roy) as in "check with Ray" with the ending notation of "500?" suggests a previous collector thought this could have been a Scott 500, which it is not, and that checking with Ray would determine such.

That said, your stamp is clearly one of the offset printings and will be a type V, VA, or VII.
The plates for these issues frequently have small flaws such as the dot in the "O" and can be interesting to search for.

Add: your notation of "Scott # 528 - VII (5.2)" suggests you are using a very old catalog. What printed or online resource are you using for ID?

Also consider that the writing has nothing to do with the stamp on the card.

I am sure I'm not the only collector who parks stamps on old cards until I get around to identifying them.

After all, I know that the writing is about something else that I purchased.
