I purchased this cover not for the patriotic aspect, but rather the improper revenue use. Yes, I realize that there is no way to know whether the paste-on is contemporaneous with the postal use or was added on after the fact. The paste-on does not cover the manuscript address. Cover is reduced slightly at right.
I've been able to track down similar printed imagery from both patriotic stationery and lettersheets, but nothing that is an exact match.
I don't have any of the Civil War patriotic cover catalogues, nor do I have James Milgram's "American Illustrated Letter Stationery 1819-1899."
The subject is General Winfield Scott. The cover is postmarked CROOKED CREEK, IND, and a lovely improbable combination of perf and imperf revenues improperly used as postage on the same cover.
