Hi Rod, just like Plateflaw I am a big fan of Edmond Dulac and have been reading about him, a man of boundless talent.

In my searches I cam across an other extremely talented engraver, perhaps the most prolific engraver the world has seen (he worked into his 80's) and that was the Polish born stamp engraver, Czes#322;aw S#322;ania, who engraved over a thousand stamps over 45 years for the Swedish printing Office, as well as other issues for other countries, banknotes etc.

A link for those interested to know more about this amazing man, whose engravings boggle the mind:

Here are just four of his engravings...the Greta Garbo stamp is hard to believe !

Thanks Rod22, I will do that.

I thought the comparison between two greats would be interesting, in the one thread.

We are probably seeing the end of a marvelous era, one of the many victims of progress.

YAWN
Good morning.
The Dulac image is the Mermaid from 'Stories from Hans Anderson' published in 1911.
Certainly not Disney's Ariel.

I remember the book from when I was a small child - one image in particular has stuck in my mind - one of Dulac's illustrations for "The Princess and the Pea".

One day I will search for the book.
