Lovely Exhibition cover Rod ! The contents [when new], were also tasty

What kind of card is that ? I am sure I have seen something similar with Coates before but cannot remember.

Getting old I guess

Just another snippet from the Coronation set.
In 1954, the print and design company Penrose, included in their annual an article about the Coronation Issue. Accompanying the Article, was a Free Sheet of Harrison's & Sons Blackprints of the 4 designs. A large sheet with 12 perforated stamps, 3 of each design with the designers' name under each strip of 3.
This sheet became much sought after, and still is...including by me.
A copy in decent condition will probably set me back about £80-100. I was called out to work recently when a sheet appeared on ebay and I lost it. But it was quite creased and went for £17. [Having said that, I would have bid anyway !]
The back of the sheet is inscribed "Reproductions".

I am sure Dulac would have approved.

Londonbus1....I know I do !

Wow, nice one Doubledecker,
it is amazing how things bubble to the surface, when you
focus in on them.
Never seen that sheet before.

The Coates Printers Ink card is not mine, it belongs/belonged
to a member of RCSD posted some years ago, and he
wasn't selling.

That is the only reference I have ever seen regarding
postage stamp inks, it is a very quiet and little known
discipline I think.

I found this under a piece of cardboard in the bottom of a box containing FDCs. I would agree that Dulac has designed a real beauty, it certainly commands attention on this sheet.

Wow!
It constantly amazes me, after years and years
of looking at stamps, new examples continue
to pop up.
The list is virtually endless it seems.

If you wanna sell, you have my email addy :)
(I think Londonbus would like as well)

BTW I think these are called "Black prints"
I am not sure being perfed excludes them from
this definition.

Brilliant thread Rod. Dulac was a part of what is called the Golden Age of Illustration from the 1880s to 1920s, along with NC Wyeth, Arthur Rackham and Charles Dana Gibson, to name a very few. In a turbulent part of the century his work lent a feeling of comfort to the stories they illustrated.
Well done, I shall go back and read it in more detail when my eyes aren't so bleary. Now it's time for a bedtime story. Nighty night.

Here is a Royal Mail stamp booklet commemorating Edmund Dulac. It was issued for National Stamp Day, 6 May 1982.

The booklet cover featured two of Dulac's design. On the front was Dulac's 5 shilling stamp of 1939 as illustrated above.
