I have quite a few of the A64 Type from the early 1930's. All canceled and most in pretty good condition. As with many of these early German stamps, some of the canceled ones seem to be worth more than some of the unused ones. In particular Scott "s 394 & 407 of the 15pf are worth more used than unused.

The two stamps on the left here look to me like I might have one of each of they might just be both #407. Unfortunately the scan is not correct on the colors and the scan looks more red than the actual colors of them which is more like purple/maroon. But the two do look slightly different in color and that is why I thought I might have one of each 394 & 407. But the color difference is just so slight so again I am not sure.

Then the 2 black ones on the right which are just solid black I can't seem to find. I did not see any denomination listed for 1pf under the A64 Type so just wondering if they are from a different series possibly?

Cheers...

Marc

Hi Marc

I'm no expert but I looked up what I have.

The Black one are from the A64 type 1933-36 #415.

I have included my page from these years to show you the 15 maroon. Mine is #423 as it has a watermark. #407 doesn't have a watermark.

So I'm pretty certain your 15 red is a #394 from 1932

I isolated a pic of the #423 maroon so you can compare the color. It is pretty accuarate to what mine looks like

Thanks for that Dianne. Mine are more of a maroon color like your 15 and not dark red I think like the catalog says for #394. They both seem to have some sort of watermark I think as well. I am leaning more towards them being either 407 or 423. I have scanned them again now and gotten a bit more accurate actual color now.

By the way, if they are 423, and quite possibly mine are as well, then I think they are just minimal value. Thanks.

I just looked at my catalogue again and I'm pretty certain #407 doesn't have a watermark.

This is the watermark for #423

Hope this helps
