I bought 4 collections from him for resale and would never buy from him again. Almost all of the "better" stamps had serious faults not disclosed and not apparent from the pictures. Many repairs, thins, reperfs, regummed, etc. Some were misidentified as stamps worth much more than they really are. I've been able to sell a lot of the faulty ones, but only as fillers for a buck or 2. I'll never recoup my investment. He might not be a ripoff artist, but he doesn't disclose faults and, based upon the ones I purchased, his collections are mostly junk. I learned my lesson. |

One of my favorite sellers. I really appreciate the no hassle returns that occasionally are needed.

I have bought 10 or 12 items/collections from here and have been pleased with each purchase. |

Bought one auction lot from him. 3 stamps, one with undescribed thin, but price was low enough that I didn't try to return. |

As I have stated before, he is not dishonest but he buys and sells on large volume and the quality is often spotty. In many areas where his knowledge level is very low he will sometimes sell things that are not genuine simply because he does not know any better. |

I've bought from there before. I had 2 albums where all the higher priced items have been taken out. Thoroughly cherrypicked. I can't say for sure who it was..if it was like that when he got it or he was the one who picked them out. So I didn't really have any basis or fact for an argument. I just had to live with it and some of the featured stamps were way over catalog prices. I have no idea where he gets his catalog info from because I'd certainly like the catalog he uses. I like to view his auctions but I'm once bitten twice shy now. |

Usually I watch stamps from 3 or 4 sellers at the same time and I can tell whether there is intense activity on ebay or people rather watching the superbowl. I suspect NYSTAMPS artificially increases the interest on his lots. I bid on many of NYSTAMPS lots and every time I have the sense I'm being setup for a higher price. That is at the same time other sellers with similar stamps have low bidding activity. The reason I say that is because I'm outbid with small increments just low enough to put me in the lead next time I increase the bid. I NEVER got anything at a bargain price like it happens with other sellers, but the price always seems to settle at a good value for the seller. I watch my limits carefully thus I don't win many of his lots. My advice is mind your limits when you bid from this seller. I suspect he has a number of bidders on ebay that play in the same team. |

I bought 1 collection from them and got exactly what I expected. I got a nice Scott album filled with mostly common stuff. But that's what I was looking for...to help fill out my Spanish collection. Most of the Spanish collections I see them sell are pretty similar, light on the 19th century items, heavy on the common stuff. The one thing I don't like about their sales tactics is how they take multiple pictures of each page, making it look like there is more there than there really is. But I still look at their items, to see if I can spot something that others may miss. |

As I mentioned earlier, I purchase from nystamps from time to time, only collections, and have had some success. I never saw any evidence of shill bidding and won some decent collections at or below 10% of CV. I've missed out on quite a few that exceeded my max price, but that's the breaks. Lately, I haven't seen anything of interest. I always set a firm fixed price that I will bid based on an estimate of CV and never exceed that. That provides general protection against shill bidding and prevents emotion from getting involved in the transaction. As for multiple pictures per page, I welcome as many pictures as possible. This is where I think nystamps and a handful of other dealers stand out and I have no complaints. Generally the multiple pictures are to provide more detailed pictures after a larger view. One caution when buying mounted collections applies to all dealers: never assume the original collection correctly identified the stamp and mounted it in the right place. This is one reason for expecting a deep discount when buying collections on ebay. |
