Monaco issued many stamps to support the Monegasque Red Cross. Here are five issued during 1968-1977, all were designed by Pierrette Lambert and engraved by Claude Halley: Saint Martin shares his skirt with a poor, issued on April 29, 1968 to commemorate 20th anniversary of the Monegasque Red Cross: Saint Louis, King of France 1226-1270, helps poor people, issued on May 4, 1970: Saint Francis of Assisi (1182-1226), issued on April 27, 1972: Saint Francis of Assisi (1181 or 1182 – 1226), an Italian Catholic friar, deacon, mystic, and preacher. He founded the men's Order of Friars Minor, the women's Order of St. Clare, the Third Order of St. Francis and the Custody of the Holy Land. Francis is one of the most venerated religious figures in Christianity. Louise de Marillac and children, issued on November 9, 1976: Louise de Marillac (1591 – 1660) was the co-founder, with Vincent de Paul, of the "Daughters of Charity". She is venerated as a saint by the Episcopal Church in the United States of America and the Roman Catholic Church. St. John Bosco with street boys, issued on November 9, 1977: John Melchior Bosco (1815 – 1888), an Italian Roman Catholic priest, educator, and writer of the 19th century. While working in Turin, where the population suffered many of the ill-effects of industrialization and urbanization, he dedicated his life to the betterment and education of street children, juvenile delinquents, and other disadvantaged youth. He developed teaching methods based on love rather than punishment, a method that became known as the Salesian Preventive System. Will show more from Monaco |
