A bit of philatelic trivia:

What is the longest country name (in the western alphabet) to appear on a postage stamp?

I don't know the answer, but a long one that comes to mind is Federated States of Micronesia, which has 27 letters.

Anyone know longer ones?

United States of America -- 24
British Indian Ocean Territory -- 27

EAST AFRICA AND UGANDA PROTECTORATES -- 32

Not my stamp; but I figured KGV Collector might enjoy it

United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. That's 44 letters (not including 7 spaces).

Good one, Smauggie, but that has never appeared on the stamps that way. I am talking about what is the longest name that has been printed on the stamps.

KirkS, thanks for showing EAUP stamp; yes the King is everywhere!

50 characters + 6 spaces:

united nations interim administrative mission in kosovo

yes, that is the official name of the authority issuing the stamps, and yes, it does appear, in it's entirety, on the stamps.
