Hello, I have a rant... I'm relatively new to the forum but not to collecting. My main collecting is Israel Tabbed Singles. I use White Ace pages.
Since about 2002 (I'm not sure when it actually started) Israel Post has been issuing more and more self-adhesive stamps (mostly) in booklet form that match or closely resemble their regular gummed issues. White Ace (Washington Press) has been putting these into the tabbed singles pages as a matter of policy (for 56 years according to my email with them). Here is my rant! They DON'T have tabs so why are they in the TABBED pages. I see their place in the Singles pages. Washington Press tells me this is their policy but I ask them why and all they do is quote the policy. But why? I probably sound like a 4 year old asking the WHY question.
Maybe I'm too much of a purist but I think stamps in the TABBED pages should have TABS. Seems pretty simple.
I would love to hear what other folks have to say here. I hope I have put this in an appropriate forum. If not I suspect someone will move it.

OK, I've not been collecting long, and I know little about tabbed stamps or White Ace pages, but if they're annoying you so much, why are you still using them? Is there an alternative? Could you make your own pages as some folk here do? I suspect that when a collector begins to specialise, generic pages become less appealing. Just my newbie impression... |

excellent point and I may be doing just that. I've looked at other pages available and they are way more expensive and they would really standout as being way different. and when you have 50plus years of the same pages, well, I'm a purist to a fault perhaps. I've considered just getting the blank Israel pages and doing it myself. I've done this with other topical collections.
However, I do want to hear from other folks about my rant LOL |

Okay, the Tabbed pages represent each stamp in its most-complete form. If the stamp came with a tab, then the space is there for it. If the stamp never came with a tab, it still gets a place, because that is the most-complete version available for that particular stamp.
What do you think? (I don't know anything about WA pages.) |

Weavus:
I'm sure Londonbus will want to weigh in on your rant -- he's posted several threads here about Israel tabs (try the search), so he probably knows a thing or two about albums.

Weavus Hi, I know nothing about White Ace album pages but just clarify something for me. Do I understand correctly that there are spaces for both S/A tabbbed stamps and regular gummed tabbed stamps ? And is there a place for a booklet ? Or do they not print such pages ? If there is, then how does it look, because booklets today are issued to customers in an unfolded sheet ? By the very nature of what they are, one cannot have tabs on die-cut self-adhesives so if this is what is written on the White Ace pages it seems absurd. Not only that they are printed this way but also that they do not answer you in the correct manner. If they are printing such pages/spaces for non-existent stamps it seems like there is something very wrong and that they should know about it. Let me know their email address, I would like to write to and see what answer I get ! Londonbus1 |

Londonbus, happy to give you a name and email. But to answer your question, yes, they are printing spaces for the diecut S/As. it makes no sense. The worst was 2008 when they printed a place for the Noah Arks and Hula Reserve S/As as singles. the PO didn't even print them that way but bombay stamps supplies Washington press and they cut up a special booklet for each and sold them that way. Talk about absurd. Here are two examples of what I am talking about. I'm just not seeing why these are in the TABBED pages |

OK, now I understand a little better. What they have done is put the stamps without Tabs on the pages because this is the only way they exist. Without them, you wouldn't be complete ! As Tabs do not exist for the Fruit Booklet or the Noah's Ark, the flood and the Stamp booklet, how else can you collect them ??! Much better to put the stamps on the pages within the tabs section than have a seperate section I guess. Later, when this occurs more often than not, maybe they will change their layout.
I still have a reservation though. Neither booklet issue has die-cut backing paper so they would have to be removed from the booklet with scissors or sharp knife. There are indents on the Noah's Ark booklet but I would never try to seperate them that way !
Interesting though.

Quote: The worst was 2008 when they printed a place for the Noah Arks and Hula Reserve S/As as singles I guess this is common practice with other album pages too. I personally would never cut up my prestige booklets for these stamps but I have to admit in the past to buying two or more books in order to split ! [GB, not Israel though I did split a Clocktowers Booklet because the pages of that booklet deserved to be on display]. Londonbus1 |

Are there spaces for Miniature sheets and/or Sheetlets ?? How did you display the 1963 Halbanon sheet for example ?? Are there pages for the strip of 4 with tabs and not the other stamps in the sheet ?? The plot thickens. Londonbus1 |

I'll get back to on that. I'm looking at tux for my son's wedding. And it was my understanding that they are in the non tabbed pages |

so I don't have the tabbed singles pages for 1963. I'm not back that far quite yet. Still working on it. I have the singles pages though. But based on the 'policy' I was quoted, they would not have included the sheetlet or even the strip of 4 because the design is not different.
I cannot PM you Londonbus because I don't have enough posts here in this forum (I have them in the Coin Community). So should I just post the individual's name here with the email. He is at a generic customer service email from Washington Press, it isn't like his home email or anything |

But the design IS different. Each stamp on the sheet is different. That's why the sheet is so popular. Quote: So should I just post the individual's name here with the email. I think that would be OK in this case. They are probably getting hundreds of emails a day anyway. Londonbus1 |

OK, I see the differences now. I was just looking at a picture and the background differences were not apparent to me. My guess is that they would have included the whole sheetlet
The contact I have had at Washington Press is Michael August at customerservice@washpress.com
The last communication I had with him was not so pleasant. I apparently overstepped my sarcasm bounds and his email was less than friendly. I didn't mean to personally insult him but maybe I did. I sent another note to him. He has been helpful in sending some replacement pages because I messed up the 2008 ones because of the oddities they included. Anyway, his explanation was the same as your LB. If you have a different stamp you need to have some place to put it but my question was really why in the TABBED pages.
Anyway, I'd be interested to hear what his response is to you. I know they got some complaints about the 2009 pages. He was honest about that but my issues were not as high on the list because of the policy they have for inclusion

Are there non-tabbed pages too ? And if there are, do the same S/A stamps appear on those as well ?? |
