Here's one you don't see a whole lot, not rare just not real common.

That is a beauty.

edit: Our non-U.S. friends might not be familiar with what this represents. The National Firearms Act of 1934 instituted a $200 tax on the manufacture and sale of certain types of firearms and accessories, in an attempt to cut down on the trade in machine guns, short-barreled shotguns, and the like. Makes you wonder what this item would have been related to...

I collect the things for which these stamps are issued! Actually that was why I joined, to see if these stamps had any resale value after the item itself was sold.

Some things you may not know:

There are two NFA stamps, a 200 dollar one and a 5 dollar one. The former is blue in color like the one above, the latter is a pink or salmon color. The 200 dollar stamp is used every time a short-barreled rifle, a silencer, short-barreled shotgun or automatic weapon is transferred or manufactured.

The 5 dollar stamp is issued for the transfer of a vague category called "any other weapon." This AOW category includes various curiosities like short-barreled shotguns with no stock, guns disguised as common objects, and pistols with a vertical grip forward of the magazine. This 5 dollar stamp seems to be less common since there is less demand for this kind of gun... I myself have only one.

The "AOW" stamp was only one dollar at one time. The one dollar AOW stamps are now pretty rare since they are no longer used.

I would LOVE to find a $5 on the correct form! I have several of the $200 stamps on form but none of the $5. I have often thought of buying an "AOW" just to get the stamp. Yes, Silly I know. But, I could add my purchase to my "other" collection. The big downside is I live in a state that prohibits class 3 weapons. If cought you are in for a lengthy legal fight. You would probably win, if you don't run out of money 1st.

It's getting tougher to find these on the form, guys don't like having there name and address floating around on the form 4 advertising the fact that they like to play with NFA stuff. Friend of mine cut the ones I have out of his old form 4's and gave them to me, and shredded the forms.

Yes that is true! But, as long as it is still attached to part of the Form 4 there is a premium. RY8 and RY9 can not be removed from the form! The gum is NOT soluable in water or most solvants that I am aware of. Those that will remove them will also damage the printing.

Good point rev, that is why mine is close cut on the piece of form 4, and then hinged into my National.

How is the value determined for a used NFA tax stamp? I have one that I am considering selling. Would I have to sell it along with the actual Form 4 or could I simply cut the block out of the Form 4 with the stamp attached?

revstampman,

Mine is the greenish colored 200.00 tax. It was for a suppressor. I can't post a pic at the moment because I am overseas. Thanks.

Are you sure you don't mean Blue $200.00? I would need to know if it has a printed serial # in red. If so I need the serial #.

RSM,

My stamp is exactly like the one posted by MiB (on the left). The serial number is hand-written in on the stamp as is typical of the ones that I have. I believe that the examiners initials and date are also marked on there as well.

The hand written # is the serial number of the Gun or Device. The initials are those of the inspector and the date. It is worth more on document. They normally run $40-$60 on document.

RSM,

I am aware of that as I have several stamps and this one was one that belonged to me. I later sold the device in question to a friend. Would it be acceptable to blacken out certain information on the document without taking away from any value? I have heard other estimates as high as 75.00-100.00 dollars. Is that far fetched?
