Hey David Giles, I am still keeping a look out for the Texas postmarked airmails. But I was wondering if while you have a interest in Texas if you had see the hidden images on the 1948 Fort Bliss Centennial stamp scott #976? Kinda neat. I know of a few others with hidden images (not counting the decoder ones), different than Texas of course might start a topic for that.

Original stamp.

Can you see the Horse, mules, wagon, camel?

Had little trouble to get a clear shot of car, train, etc.

That's a nice issue from back when men were men and stamps were real stamps. I am always amazed with the skill of the hand engravers - especially since they had to prepare the original engraving in a mirror image!

Here is scott # 2819-28 designed by Albert Hirschfeld . He was a cartoonist for the New York Times plus many others. He incorporated his daughters name " NINA " into this set.

I added two more outline hints. Can you find the rest?

See if you can see her name. Red outlines show some.

The Mars Pathfinder stamp incorporated hidden images to prevent counterfeiting, while adding an interesting design element. The hidden text -- Mars Pathfinder, July 4, 1997 and the letters USPS --is not visible to the naked eye but can only be viewed by with the secret decoder lens, which is available through the Postal Service's Philatelic Fulfillment Center in Kansas City, MO.

Here are two more using a different approach. Micro printing, used on newer issues such as Flags and Liberty Bell to prevent photocopying of stamps.

Shown here are scott number 3314 John & William Bartram stamp and scott number 3166 Padre Felix Varela stamp

Botanical micro printed on leaf.-----------------------------USPS duplicated to produce image.

WetGlaswegian, if you really want to get technical about it in the 1840-1850's many banknote stamps or early classics have secret marks. These were done into the design of the stamp when different printing companies switched as to identify their printing.
