Just curious about this South Carolina Business Tax Stamp. In searching the web, I can find a number of them shown, but not this particular one by American Bank Note Co. with the palm tree central to the design.

Any idea as to dates of use?

wt1,

I found several of that stamp listed at www.ericjackson.com in the State revenues section -- he lists it as:

SOUTH CAROLINA STATE REVENUES
Business License Tax Stamps
SRS #SC BL37S
3c chocolate
Year: 1924-29

(And after two years at MCRD Parris Island I can tell you that the "palm tree" is really a Sabal Palmetto, the official state tree.)

Ha! I had originally thought that palm was just a crude drawing
the trunk looked too thick.
I wikied the Sabal Palmetto and read about the "boots"
Thanks for the nudge

Thanks for your help on this. I'm still learning the available resources on-line for stamps and revenues and I had not known there was such a wealth of information on the link you provided. It's a good resource.

Sorry about the refernce to a "Palm" v. "Sabal Palmetto". I didn't know the difference as I they are not native to my area of the country.

State Tree of Florida and South Carolina. Grow as far north as Virginia. I always did like fan palms.

wt1,

No offense taken regarding the name of the tree -- I didn't know it either until I was stationed in SC (regretably, I also became familiar with sand fleas and the palmetto bug while there).

As to the wealth of information on that website, had you not asked the question, I would have never known of it myself! Thanks for broadening my exposure. I think that is what most appeals to me about this forum.
