I recall buying that stamp at the PO when it was issued. I actually bought a block of 4, I can't recall if it was a plate block or not. This was when I just been collecting for a few years. I enjoyed looking for the Star of David with my magnifying glass. It was probably the 1st hidden image stamp I had purchased.

Were they other hidden images stamps printed? That was unusual. I don't think I have that one in my U.S. collection.

rod,
I never knew that there were stamps that had hidden images. Thanks for both links There was a listing on the U.S. Postal page that had all the U.S. stamps that Scott had listed with images. Thanks.

On a similar note (sort of) Canada tucked hidden dates into stamp designs for years. There was an article in Scott's monthly in the last year or two, and probably a thread here, too?

Another great use of scanners and especially higher resolution scans, is to distinguish between those pesky "Type 1" and "Type 2" and "Type 3" varieties, where the only difference is a misplaced dot of ink somewhere....

Thanks Dianne.

BTW. The USPS does not allow such secret markings, and the engraver
was suspended for 12 months. (as I have read, not confirmed)
