Out of the hundreds of NY precancels I have gone through today, I only had two that were too difficult for me to read/identify. One I posted earlier today and received a quick reply for which I am grateful.

This is the other one I have yet to identify. Would anyone care to help me identify the name of this city or town located in New York?

I understand these issues of precancels were notorious for poor printing, but as much as I've tried, I have been unable to figure out the city or town name.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Try Coxsackie, NY.

Nope, just brute force. It looked to be clearly an "E" at the end of the name, so I just went through the Town & Type catalogue, looking for towns ending in "E". Fortunately, it was Coxsackie and not Waxahachie. ha ha

Thanks for decyphering this one! I have heard of Coxsackie, but was thrown off by the central "C" in the lettering, as it looked more like a "G" to me...and when I tried to search possible towns with that combination of letters, I came up empty.

I guess it's all in the style of typeface used in printing. Anyway, I had 77 different precancels from various cities/towns in New York...this makes it 78!
