I can find this stamp in the Scott Specialized Revenue Section but have no reference as to the overprinted sunburst of U.S.P.C.Co. (which I assume it is U.S. Playing Card Company).

Is this considered a precancel? Or is there a more detailed catalog that would identify this particular variety?

Yes, It is concidered a precanel, but not for postage. THe stamp is an RF27 with a type 18 precancel overprint on it. It is worth $2.00!

Warrehouse,

In identifying wt1's precancel, what source did you use?

Steve

Thanks for the info. I, too, would be interested to know what resource one uses to identify the various "precancels" for Playing Card Revenues.

I also have these other two varieties of U.S.P.C.Co. "precancels":

They are listed in the "Precancel Stamp Society Catalog".

Your 2nd stamp is a RF23-15
3rd stamp is RF23-16
**Note on your 1st precancel Double, Triple and even Quadruple overprints are known.

More Correctly, "Precancel Stamp Society Catalog of United States Bureau Precancels"
in section "Part 2".
