I collect 61s, mainly on cover, and I have pretty specific criteria for what I buy.

If it's common, or easily found, there's just no reason to buy sloppy stuff. I collect foreign destination covers, and I lean towards 24c covers. A 24c rate to England? Dirt common and that's why the stamp exists in the first place, buying a pig to England is pointless, unless it's somehow spectacular otherwise (Blackish Violet? That I can see).

I am also playing around with plating th 24c '61, so copies that I buy for plating are a whole different story.

The 12c is a very common stamp. Granted they don't come as well centered as some of the other 61s, but they aren't as tough to find nice as a 5c or a 15c. IMO you can snag a nice F/VF that's fault free and presentable for $75 and a nice VF for $100-120. Do what I do, save up and get a better one :)
