Well, if you are going overboard, please don't take the mint stamps with you unless they are in a sealed water-proof baggie! |

If you are happy with what you purchased, then you did you GREAT! That's the only criteria I use. k |

yeah, but lately I am gun shy and afraid of being ripped off.
partly because even some of the highly respected sellers are selling altered stamps... re: the 114 talked about and stamp I bought from the same vendor, both altered. |

Then make sure whatever you buy you can return, on higher priced stuff, make sure the seller is OK with you getting a cert. |

Quote: yeah, but lately I am gun shy and afraid of being ripped off. That's why I recommended Schmid's book. Knowledge is power (and money saved). But please allow me to present things from my perspective. When I buy stamps at the price range you paid for those stamps, I pretty much have factored in that there will be a non-trivial percentage of altered/repaired stamps. So I just shrug off any purchases of altered/repaired stamps and chalk it up as a lesson learned and a possibly black-listed seller. If I wanted genuine quality stamps each and every time, I would pretty much be paying full catalog or more and only from a handful of dealers. I choose the low-end route. I get enough quality stamps to keep me happy, and I still end up with more overall stamps for less money spent. To borrow from another thread, rather than buy one $55K stamp, I'd rather have 55K different $1 stamps, even if that meant they were in mixed condition. Just my opinion. Buy and collect stamps they way YOU want to, because its YOUR money and YOU should be the one getting the most enjoyment from YOUR stamps. Thanks for posting the pics! k |

I'll take a US #C3a, even if it means you have to cut up a C3 and paste the plane onto another C3. I'm sure you could do it without me noticing it. A Great Britain #33 plate#177 airbrushed to make it look like a plate #77 is also acceptable. You'd be surprised how hard it is to find one of those higher-quality altered #177's! k |

Daryl, I can relate and that is why I took Kim's advice and bought the book (there were 3 used copies left on Amazon.com after my purchase). I don't know if you've purchased from this seller before but I did and was very pleased with his service. If you've paid for the stamps he's probably already left you feedback. One of the lots I won from him had been represented as a used F-VF Scott 261A with an SCV of $800 (for a VF) -- I paid $59.50 -- about 7.4% of SCV. The stamp was really a Scott 261 with an SCV of $350 for a VF. I sent him an email with an image clearly showing that the stamp was a Type I and proposed that, because I didn't have a 261, I would be willing to pay 10% of the actual SCV. He immediately issued a refund, I added him to my favorite sellers list, and I remained a happy camper. Steve p.s., Nice stamps |
