I've got to say I'm getting done in by these China overprints!

I'm on Day 3 and getting burned out trying to find these guys and then only to fine one in the catalog then I cant find the spot in the Album...

I think Early China is harder then Turkey and Russia so far...

tomorrow when I have some caffeine I'll post pictures of my problem stamps so I'll still have some hair left on my head by sun down.

Hi Edwin, I collect overprints (among other things) and sympathise with you. They are quite difficult to find and place. I'm interested to see what you have.

Well I made some headway this morning I found they were not China, or north china, or Formosa, or republic of china, BUT rather PEOPLES, republic of china
Right now I've having problems finding the "Peoples Republic of China" in my Albums, specifically 1950's ish

I was assuming they were in the China section? did it get a strange name or an odd spot in the Scotts International Album?
(maybe those pages are missing) I'm not sure...

Scott did not include PRC stamps in the SI volumes until the 1970s. SI pages for PRC 1949-1972 must be ordered separately; that SI volume part is very inexpensive, and should cost you less than $10. Minkus also produced an album that covers that time period -- it is also out of print and uses Minkus catalog numbers, but you should be able to get a set of pages+binder for under $10.

You mentioned overprints for PRC stamps. They may be general issue or possibly local/liberation area issues. I'm not sure, but I don't think all the local/liberation area overprints have spaces in the Scott PRC pages. Verify what you have first, and check before you buy. Scott does not list all the local/liberation area issues in their catalog.

I'm just going to add a blank page (still have 80 blank Scotts left). I have many years of collecting to go I figure down the road I'll probably pick up and album I can cannibalize the pages from when I get a better feel for China by then I hope to know what I really need.

Well, I promised pictures, however I ended finding most of my stock homes... this was all that I was left with out homes. I believe a majority of these pictured ended up being 1950 peoples republic of china, however a few I never found,

Edwin, no shame in those "gate of heavenly peace"
they are extremely ornery.

Here is a reference for you to keep.
IIRC I called
NE=North East China
NC=North Central China

These are the Chinese characters to look out for

Of course, they can be written in different fonts, but the basic shapes of the characters will remain the same.

holy cow ROD, you looked them ALL up!! THANKS... I don't have gibbons but those dates nail them for me.

Tonymacg: thanks I'll watch for those... this was my first go around with china so it was slow going for me but I think I did well, I found around 60 stamps in my books 1/3 of those were overprints.
