I went to an estate auction today--spent many hours trying to wait in the shade and bid on what was listed as "an immaculate stamp collection". It was almost all FDC's. I bid and won an album of 40 first day and special covers-1981 in great condition for $20 ! That's 50 cents a piece. Plus I bid and won two envelopes full of soakers--from 1990's. The album is from the Postal Commemorative Society.. Also included was "best Stamp Issue of 1980"-Coral reefs(4 stamp set), and Best stamp 1981 of the P.C.S. "America's Space Achievements" (8 stamp set). Lucky for me the Antique Dealers had left by then--they were bidding against each other earlier for old post cards--1907-1911--one dealer bought about 25 post cards for $185.00! What's wrong with that picture--they were really worn and some of them had no stamps or cancels.

Gussy, some people just collect post cards and care nothing about the postmarks or the stamps that are generally common. Check out the post card section on ebay sometime. Post cards really do have a life of their own. If the dealer knew what he was doing, and you can assume he did, he'll get back more than the $185.00 he paid for them.

Gussy..now you got it !! we pay for the covers and get the album for free..thats saving 15 dollars or so right there ..early 20th century Guatemala postcards are quite scarce..compared to Mexico which I see everywhere..i will pay $8.00 to $10.00 for a stamped 1900s Guatemala card..but I know people that will pay many times that !!
