So there are lots of names for this "holiday" we call Halloween here in the US. Day of ... the dead; which precedes "all souls" day and the difference between good and evil.

We've already got threads for bats and insects and other mammals of repugnant nature, so let's confine this to a display of imagination and art combined... Show us your ghouls, goblins and vampires. I'm starting tame because I'm a newbie... with little in the category beyond Longfellow and a headless horseman.

Issued Oct 12, 1974 - Scott #1548

Edit title for Day of the Dead and All Saints Day.!
And Happy halloween... is there such a thing as too much chocolate?

Ohh I like it! I REALLY want to get one of those black light things for stamps. I should figure out something about this.
Regardless, I hope there are many, many more posts to come.
do we know the artist?

Greetings!

The Stamp Trollusk is a creature that is rumored to live in
the Pacific Northwest in the rain shadow of the Olympic
Mountains.

At night he has been known to lurk on the streets of
Poulsbohemija trying to sniff out stamp collections.

He then steals postage stamps and then puts them
into his secret stockbook.

Pictured is a block of 4 stamps.

I've always thought that this is a dark-themed stamp from Lithuania, Scott C82...maybe they didn't intend it that way.

I borrowed the scan...if I think of it in the morning I'll scan at better resolution...

I"d never heard of this. I don't know how I missed it since I'm essentially a kid.

Darkness falls across the land
The midnite hour is close at hand
Creatures crawl in search of blood
To terrorize yawls neighbourhood
And whosoever shall be found
Without the soul for getting down
Must stand and face the hounds of hell
And rot inside a corpses shell
------
The foulest stench is in the air
The funk of forty thousand years
And grizzy ghouls from every tomb
Are closing in to seal your doom
And though you fight to stay alive
Your body starts to shiver
For no mere mortal can resist
The evil of the thriller

Are the neighbourhood vampires hangin' around too long?

Are the local W I T C H E S stirring up a brew?

Do your neighbours look like goblins?

Never fear, there's an answer near !

There's been a bit of talk of Robbie Burns here recently, so for anyone whose interested, here's a link to his poem Tam O'Shanter, where Tam, riding home drunk late one night, comes upon a riotous gathering of witches, warlocks and ghouls, with the devil himself playing the bagpipes as they dance.
http://www.robertburns.org.uk/Asset...oshanter.htm
(it includes a translation for those who, like me, are not fluent in Scots!)
