ok, so I bought/ bit the bullet, and now I'm officially a collector, as opposed to someone who has stuff they don't know if they want. What I inherited was all US, other than international modern, which needs be soaked and catalogued.

My question is what book do I buy to help id the international stamps I've got, without a huge $$ investment. The one album I've purchased was/ is mostly pre 1955.
I know I need basic, pre-modern (pre/ 1950 European / Asian / and etc. Is here a Scott's book/ or am I better off with one of the others I see mentioned. Are they one and the same?

I also am in need of an embossed catalog with current pricing for early issues. US, back of book. dies and knife cuts.

Please contact me via direct email if you've any to sell / donate to a good cause.

You should be able to find Scott catalogs at your local library in the Reference Section. Most libraries will let you check them out for a week or two.

I'am a big fan of going to Borders Books and reading Thur Scott's Books looking up stamps. Plus they have a nice big table to place all my stamps

I got mine from the local library. I recently picked up a set 6 of 2008 Scott (with one being from 2009) for less than $65 including shipping. Much better than paying $65 each. I also see them for sale at reasonable prices at my stamp club auction.
