I am a registered member there. I registered there before I came here. I think I posted twice. Sure glad I found here.

Interesting reading the exchanges. Collecting for me is fun, its not about the money. I think it is that way for most collectors. I feel that most people in this community have a real passion for stamps and enjoy sharing that. I have seen posts from beginners and posts from extremely experienced and knowledgable collectors, but all have been treated with respect and dignity. I really enjoy the interaction I see here. It seems to be about sharing and having fun, not about always being right.

I think there is a difference between passionate in debate and being rude and insulting in the process. One can convey a strong conviction of opinion without continually resorting to snide remarks and condescension. In my opinion, the latter is what the moderators are trying to put a stop to.

Exactly. Debate the topic, not the member. Remember that and all will be good. Don't and we'll show your comments and you the door.

I just love when members play the "free speech" card. Can't tell you how many times I've had this argument with members. Show me a forum that allows free speech and I'll show you an obnoxious forum that you couldn't pay me to join.

Phil, That is so true. It's the people that run forums like that that start thinking that it's their own little world and they take on the ruler persona, not the moderator persona. Just adult bullies that never grew out of it. Which is why we have internet harassment and bully laws the way we do now.

As a new participant, I can attest to the entirely warm and hospitable reception received. I guess stamp collectors would be averse to "flame" rooms, wouldn't they?

There are other forums??????????????

You are so right Phil! People who don't have the courage to face other people under any circumstance will go web postal when they are anonymous.

I also found that forum before this one. I occasionally will surf over there, but I never linger very long too much arguing.

sigh... I think this is frightening example of what happens when people involved take the entire collecting thing too seriously. This is just a hobby, that's supposed to be fun... just my 5 cents of worth.

It astounds me how peple will say the most awful things to one another on various fora (nice use of the latin plural, hey?) that they simply would not say to the person if they were looking at them face-to-face. Still, the only entry requirement is the capacity to tap on a keyboard, who knows who you'll end up conversing with?

It is also pertinent to understand, we, as adults,
can handle this behaviour to a degree.
When bullying by young adolescents on the web, I am sure
this can scar children for life.
Who knows what damage it may create.

I am a registered member of VSC. I have never posted. The level of criticisms and attacks is far too high. It is interesting --sometimes-- to read the discussions.
