I usually scan stamps at 800dpi and covers at 600dpi. For the hidden dates closeups I use 1200dpi since that way I get them just a bit sharper than at 800dpi. I don't go above 1200 since it's very slow (sometimes freezes) and I see no gain anyway. I use Photobucket and find that the new format is an improvement and have never had any problems with it, what more can you ask of something that is free. |

Hello
Thank you, now I was scanning many stamps, the pages in 300 dpi, and for singles 600-1200 dpi.
All work, OK, thank you again.
Now, I like scan a postmark any help? Was reading a "tips on scanning" article, and said something like "convert your image to CMYK" any hint ho to do that?

I don't see any gain over 600dpi, so that is what I have been using for ten years. However it may indicate the quality of scanner I have been purchasing (below $300) I only employ 800 or 1200 for flyspecking.

Fernando, I have been using the channel splitting option in Paint Shop Pro to split to CMYK. This can be found in this program under the menu : Image - Split Channel - Split to CMYK. I'm sure other image editors can also do this. It is great for not just postmarks but watermark and machin security layers too. |

Nice one Fernando. Waterlooville is about 10 miles from me and I know it well.
Here are some useful commands: Ctrl-Alt G turns on a grid to help alignment Ctrl R to rotate - I set it to .25 degrees and align to the grid Draw a rectangle selection around the area you want to crop and Shift - R to crop to selection.
Litho these are the commands in Photoshop CS5 which I assume are similar through the range. In Image - Mode change to CMYK then you can cycle through the channels with Ctrl +2,3,4,5 etc
