Welcome Sharonb.

Seems your story is like most of us. Started collecting, stopped and then started many years later.

Hi Sharonb

That's a very interesting topical area you collect. There are many beautiful works of art, depicted on stamps from Russia, and the former Communist countries.

I have an album, of complete sets, from these countries, and I bet that 25 percent of the stamps are that of Art works

Hello Sharon........

Welcome to the club and back to the hobby. Is your 'art on stamps' collection confined to paintings or do you include all types of art?

Thanks all for you great welcome - I must admit I think this is a very friendly and addictive place to hand out

n-notrare I am going to have to narrow the topic a little I know and I am thinking about that - perhaps I might try and tell the story of Art in Stamps - I am not sure.

I teach at an Art School (university level) I was originally trained in painting and sculpture (did a double major) and then went on to do 3 other higher degrees in art. I now teach web design and Web2.0 practices. I guess I should add that stuff to my bio but my point is that I have had a long interest in the Visual Arts and much of the research would be a joy giving me an excuse to poke about in the university library

I do have a bit of an accumulation from when I collected before. So at the moment I am going through that. Will send stuff off to an Auction to clear the decks and then start again with a bit of pocket money hopefully. Then I will roll up my sleeves and tackle the "ART" theme

Gussyboy1 I notice you do needlework. I do too! I keep a blog on textiles called - In a minute ago the url is http://sharonb.wordpress.com/
I did not put it in my bio because I did not think anyone here would be interested - how wrong can I be!

Tiggersmob - I am an Aussie - in Canberra (lecturer at the ANU). I notice you are in Perth. Fremantle is my home town.

Had not thought to put where I live in my profile but ...toddles off to put place of residence in profile ... I guess I am learning what people want to know...

Sharon, I love your blog! It is so great to see another quilter/needlework individual here. I have been quilting for years--right now I have 5 quilts that I need to put the binding on, but the stamps lure me away! ha Our quilts are works of art just like the stamps. Your crazy quilting is beautiful! I have not mastered crazy quilting but have a few started but put them away due to they weren't turning out like I had hoped. I need to take a class on it at our fabric store before I start again. Welcome and we will enjoy your stamps and your beautiful quilts and needlework here!

Sharon, Good to see another person from Freo. I have lived most of my life within 10 - 15 minutes of Freo.

Welcome, Sharon!

I also do needlework, but like most of my hobbies, it's very much on-again off-again. I have several projects that have been languishing for years, alas. There's just never quite enough time for everything, is there?

You'll find this forum is extremely friendly and generous. Some amazing people here, for sure.

Goodness fancy so many needlework and philatelic connections! Great to hear I don't feel so marginal. I have a needle in my hand almost daily keeps me sane.
