When I initially looked at this stamp I had to laugh because it looked to me like the man behind was pulling the student's ears as a little encouragement to learn.
Then I spotted underneath the postmark that he is actually holding a scarf ( blindfold ) which he has just removed. It is much more evident on the scan than viewing the actual stamp which is very small.
I think the designer really used his head to come up with this one.

Well after I realized it was a scarf in his hand I thought maybe the ear had already been ripped off and now he's trying to stop the bleeding.
