Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies grow Between the crosses ,row on row That mark our place:and in the sky, The Larks ,still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead ,short days ago we lived, felt dawn ,saw sunset glow loved, and were loved ,and now we lie In Flanders fields
Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from falling hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders Field
John McCrae
Don't forget our veterans Nov 11, who died so we could trade stamps !
If anyone has some poppy stamps :that would be cool to post.!

Most of the men in my family were in a war and by God's grace all came back safe and sound. With the (ahem) current war we are involved in my thoughts do go out to the soldiers and their families. I wish them all a safe tour and a safe return.

Excuse me, but isn't Veteran's Day for living veterans, and Memorial Day for the dead? |

We don't have memorial or veterans day in Canada..Just Remembrance day. Living or dead they are all honored on Remembrance day in Canada.
So technically Modern_Who, if you NEED to be right ..I guess you are.

Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day, Armistice Day or Veterans Day) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth countries to remember the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and civilians in times of war, specifically since the First World War. This day, or alternative dates, are also recognised as special days for war remembrances in many non-Commonwealth countries. Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November to recall the official end of World War I on that date in 1918, as the major hostilities of World War I were formally ended "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month" of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice. (Note that "at the 11th hour", refers to the passing of the 11th hour, or 11:00 am.) The day was specifically dedicated by King George V, on 7 November 1919, to the observance of members of the armed forces who were killed during World War I. This was possibly done upon the suggestion of Edward George Honey to Wellesley Tudor Pole, who established two ceremonial periods of remembrance based on events in 1917.[1] The red poppy has become a familiar emblem of Remembrance Day due to the poem In Flanders Fields. These poppies bloomed across some of the worst battlefields of Flanders in World War I, their brilliant red colour an appropriate symbol for the blood spilt in the war. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remembrance_Day |

It was originally called Armistice Day in the U.S. also, as proclaimed by President Woodrow Wilson (the globalist puppet who signed the Federal Reserve Act and also unnecessarily got us into WWI). In 1953, Emporia, Kansas merchants began to push for closing their doors in honor of all veterans and their representative in congress, Ed Rees, was instrumental in getting a bill passed that President Eisenhower signed in 1954. On June 1, 1954, congress amended the 1938 act that originally made November 11th a legal holiday, replacing "Armistice" with Veterans. In the United States, it has been known as Veterans Day ever since. |

My SIL is currently in Afghanistan. My father and his father before him were in the Army (Canada). I was in the Navy , though I wasn't much of a blue water sailor, Corpsman with Marines. It just so happens that the Marine Corp Birthday was yesterday. So these are somber days. |

Great thread here.
One of my grandfathers fought in WWI and was wounded. He did come back, but I never met him, he died shortly before I was born. |
