Are stamps that are issued with living heads of State worth any more in value than those that have dead heads of States. Do they go up or down in value? Would the value of either of those two choices be based on the popularity of the leaders?

Interesting question.
I don't know of any information that would
suggest that sort of thing either way.
Australia is the only country I know of where,
the postal authority offer voting on the previous years
set of stamps.
(And I don't know the result either :)

Thanks Rod,
I guess that maybe it would be like baseball or football cards. If a player is up in popularity because of stats or losing the stats, then the value of the card goes up and down. If they pass on, I guess the value can go either way as well.

The stamp voting in Australia, if a stamp is voted the most popular is it repeated until the popularity dies out?

And even though the Chinese New Year issues are usually near the top of the least favourite and least relevant Canada Post just started a second release in the 12 year Lunar New Year series.
But when I wrote to the philatelic centre last year why they didn't issue a stamp for the 250th Anniversary of The Battle of the Plains of Abraham, I got a generic email explaining that only the most worthy subject are picked. Actually it had to do with politics, powers to be not wanting to offend a certain segment of the country so they can get more votes in the coming election.
Can you image, a historic event which basically is the beginning of Canada as we know it today is not important enough to get a stamp yet a bunch of irrelevant crap is.

Lithograving,

I understand and sympathize.

There are also Polls in Great Britain and Israel. The 2010 GB poll has just appeared in the October edition of the Philatelic Bulletin.

From time to time, subscribers are asked what they would like to see on British stamps, and a form is enclosed for those interested, to fill in and return.
I am sure that those forms go straight to the waste bin and are offered just appease the public. I have never known a subject chosen by the public [Huh, who are they anyway ?] to appear on stamps.
Instead it's Railways,Dogs,Cats and foriegn Stamp Exhibitions. They can't even celebrate their own Stampex National Show. Disgraceful!
In 2007, the public was crying out for an issue to remember the 10th Anniversary of the death of Princess Diana. It was a worthy subject given that she was undoubtedly the most popular British person of the 20th Century.

But it's OK, next year Britain is celebrating Thomas the Tank Engine. Go for it !

Londonbus1, I'm also sure that in the UK people would love to see more stamps showing UK places. It's astonishing how few there are. Most countries have produced stamps showing pretty all the most interesting sites - yet for the UK there are remarkably few stamps for such a beautiful country. Almost no stamps showing anything of the Yorkshire Dales, for instance - if they were in Austria or Germany or Switzerland or France or Spain (or most places else) there would be a dozen stamps at least by now.

David,

I agree. There are very few. I would love to see a set or series on Britains footpaths. As a 'conqueror' of most of the long distance walks in the UK,I say it would make for a fine series.

But no, it's just more trains and sawn off heads and cats and Dogs and .........

Londonbus1....What about more album covers

I think they probably learned their lesson after that last one...couldn't have been a big seller.
