I have another colour question for the forum members with a good eye for colour.

Baden: 6kr Scott # 3, coloured paper yellow green or Scott # 9 yellow

9kr is it Scott # 4 lilac rose or Scott 4a deep rose

I have no other copies I can compare them with.

Thanks Russ, the scans are pretty well accurate. Hope you're right about the deep rose since CV for that one is considerable more than for the lilac rose.

Here is a true 4a.

I cannot see the secret mark the cancel is right where it is. Email me a HiRes scan @ 200% and I will give it another look. The other things that point to a forgery Do NOT look like they are there.

revstampman,in your scan the colour looks way deeper than mine but then again it looks more lilac whereas mine is more pale rose.

I didn't think it was a forgery but what is the secret mark you mentioned ?

I could tell you but then It wouldn't be a secret and I would have to kill you.

But, seriously ALL of the early Baden Stamps have a secret engravers mark. On these 2 it is hidden in the scallops in the lower right corner. In the sane area as the period. It is difficult to explain what to look for. It is sort of a curly(?) thing.

Is this not the secret mark? If it is not, I've been looking for the wrong things...

The small 5 in 1850 is another spotting feature...must be present in genuine stamps, might not be in forgeries. The capital F must also be clear of the frame.

I found a couple of sites regarding the Baden fakes which illustrated the green 3 kr but only described what to look for concerning the 6 and 9kr.
The 5 in the date is smaller than the other numbers and I see an appendix on the lower right curved swirl which does not appear on the other corners.

Thanks revstampman for pointing out that they might be faked. Investigating whether fake or genuine is more fun than the question I had about the colour.

litho, Look at what Cjd has circled. That is the correct mark. The other tips are also correct.
Only 1 of the forgeries has the secret mark and those are by far more difficult to find than the originals

Thanks again Rev and Cjd.

When I posted my pic I didn't realize (or was too slow in writing) that Cjd had already posted the answer 7 minutes before
