Csa Stamps..

well I am finding out that the 2cent one has a fake cancel..
I am arranging to return it to the dealer...

Jeez I wish people would knock off this kind of sh*t

Since CSA Stamps are highly collectible and sometimes get expensive they were a big target for the fakers and forgers. Not a lot of the Forgers wasted their time on Stamps of no value, I was torn apart when I learned this was a forgery.

I can empathize with you,. but dammit, people should not be selling stamps they know nothing about. I would never sell a stamp to someone as used or mint if it were otherwise. I don't care that someone lists 1000 stamps at a time. It is still up to them to be sure of what they are selling. If they can't then they shouldn't be selling them. I don't care that people take them back. It is a huge inconvenience to me to have to return stamps. My money is tied up, I have to pay for return postage and insurance.
I am becoming very disillusioned.

How do you know if it is a fake cancel SV? I will be wondering if mine is...

this was the response from an expert in CSA stamps.

"What appears to be a postmark on that stamp cannot be identified as a Confederate postmark and is most likely a fake. Because of the very large difference in value between an unused stamp and a postally used stamp, the CSA #8 stamp cannot be considered to be legitimately postally used unless the postmark can be identified as a true Confederate period postmark."

the seller has contacted me and is taking them back, they are in the mail as we speak.

I wonder if anybody else noted the postmark?
I thought it looked dodgey the moment I spied it,
but not being an expert and not wanting to be
the whistleblower, I bit my tongue.

Fake cancels have a certain look, I just cannot explain it,
too clean? too precise? not faded enough?
Maybe because I have so many fakes myself.

I finally got my CSA stamps from Belgium (on ebay). Here are the scans. They look genuine to me but I am no expert in this area. They are all engraved anyway. Only $10 for the three them.
