HI Everyone

Hi i've been collecting stamps for about 3 weeks after my wife inherited a small collection of us mint/ used, mostly used we took them to get them valued and the with the intent of selling them, bloke was trying to have me over and and I wasn't having that so I started trying to identify them my self and have got interested in it and fasinated by the detail to identify them, although the 5x 24c sc70/78 are driving me clinically insane because they all look the same to me!! I have already bought some big lots and are stating to sort them i'm not sure where this is is going to go but I have a real thirst for knowledge and this has got my attention I seem to be collecting pre 30s and I'm fascinated by the errors and the flaws, I think you might be having a few what are posts from me and I appolagise for that now (I already have some early spain stamps that come in a us lot) well that will do for now and I'm mike from the uk

Welcome to the forum. Some of us are newbies, others are long-time collectors. Everyone contributes and has fun. Don't apologise for the "What's this?" posts, the more knowledgable are happy to share their knowledge, others (like me!) will learn from it too.

It's great you've taken up the hobby - it won't make any of us rich, but stamps are fascinating, both as designs and for what they say about their era. And please do post up as many "What's this" requests as you like - lots of members find it fun to track things down or share their expertise.

You'll also find loots of interesting and useful stuff by nosing around the various forums on this site.

Welcome, there are very few questions that go unanswered on the forum. I am a pre-1940 U.S. collector and might be able to help you with some of your early U.S. questions. There is another member that specializes in the 1861 24 cent issue who could really he;p you with those issues.

Remember, stamps are more about having fun and learning than about making money.

That is possible but you have to buy cheap and sell dear as the saying is and that is what that dealer was probably trying to do. A bit disheartening when you first encounter that.
