I believe this is an 1868 1d purple inland revenue fiscal but am uncertain as to die type. Can anyone confirm my identification? If possible, I'd like a reference (i.e., catalog used and number) and dates of usage. Die type and catalog value would also be welcome.

Steve

Hi tomiseksj, tricky one this. It's either die 1 or 2 from the size of the corner ornaments. The die 1 has heavy shading under the chin (hard to tell from the pic) and 4 lines of shading on the left hand hair ribbon (which this seems to have). The die 2 has clear shading under the neck but only two lines of shading in the ribbon. If it is the die 1 it was issued from June 1868 (don't know about usage, sorry) and in my Stan Gibb 2008 is catalogued at £7 used (off cover). Hope this helps.

Sorry forgot to mention - found in the Postal Fiscals part of Stanley Gibbons GB concise, cat number is F19 (if it is the die 1).

Hi DavidR, I think it's die 1 as well but I'm no expert on these. By the way the SG price you quote is for postal use.

Hi Thomas,
Are they not postally used?
All GB stamps had dual postage and revenue usage up until the early fifties at least.
