WOW! What a Pandora's box I just opened! Got me a relatively recent Scott's (specialized) that shows PBs, etc. for US stamps and I think I am looking at an entire winter's worth of work.

In my closet I found sheets, covers, plate blocks, zip code blocks, Christmas seals, etc.

So to begin I'd like to start with something simple, I hope.

The first two pictures are from the STS 8 flight and the envelope comes in a folder-like enclosure about 8x11 inches. The front cover and envelope page are shown. Is this the same as what's in Scotts listed under "transportation" or is there added value for being in this folder?

The third picture I could not find in the catalog. I assumed it'd also be under a "transportation" title but no luck.

Can anyone give me Scott numbers or where to find more info?

Sorry for the picture quality but since I was not looking for intricate details on the stamps themselves I just snapped these off.

I did a search on "challenger" and STS 8 but came up with nothing.

Thanks!

Since no one else has responded, let me provide this link about the folder and the first cover (STS-8) that you posted. The link provides a good history/background as to the cover and some interesting trivia as well. The cover was a limited edition of "only" 165,000 and is said to have a serial number on the reverse side of the cover:

I never saw that first STS-8 cover/folder before. It apparently has some value, particularly to cover collectors or those interested in space topicals.

WT1, thanks for the link. That helps. Back in the 80s I was overseas a lot and got in the habit of ordering stamps from the USPS. I'd forgotten these covers until I dug them back out.

Edwin, yes. Thanks.

But anyone have word on what number that second FDC itself is?

The second cover for the $2.40 priority mail stamp, which I remember buying at the PO when issued in 1989, is Scott # 2419 for the Moon Landing 20th Anniversary. I do have one of the Space Flight folder with FDC that I picked up a couple years ago at one of my clubs silent auctions. I can't see the images right now because I'm at work and going from memory, but if the stamp is the $9.35 express mail stamp the Scott #1909 and if it's the $10.75 express mail stamp the Scott #2122. I hope this helps.

Edwin, so sorry. I completely misinterpreted what you said. For some reason I thought you were referring to the regular stamp. I'm a moron.

And, thanks, stamperdude.

Funny, as how I was at my stamp table and tried looking again in the Scott's album for FDCs and WHAM! There it was, 2419. Rushed to the computer to apologize to Edwin and saw your answer, too.
