Hi
This is the 2010 Queens Birthday Stamp.
If you have a look at one stamp, the Queen has warts or blotches on her face, and on other parts of the stamp.
My wife bought these in an Opp Shop( Thrift Shop in USA?) They were in a packet of modern Australia stamps about 100 stamps for .50c. She bought me four packets, lots of repeats, but I have not looked at the other issues yet.
I have done the usual, UV, Microscope, and lens.
Any suggestions.
Horamakhet

It looks like a temporary problem when printing - if no-one out there has heard of this as a variety, it's probably just a "glitch". Fun, though!

Hi Horamkhet.
I have seen this type of flaw before.
The Australian Decimal 55c self adhesive era is a cow to get off paper.
The print of the stamps is so thin that damage is just too easy.
I have seen the results of 2 55c stamps stuck together and them being pulled apart.
Your stamp looks like that to me. Even the slightest amount of gum sticking 2 stamps together will look like your one.
Trying to be helpful. KGV

Hi KGV
Thanks for the suggestion. I know what you mean I have seen this on some stamps. I examined it with a gemmological microscope and there is no skinning due to sticking.
I went 10x x 4 so that is pretty high magnification.
Regards,

Very surprising - at that magnification you certainly would have seen if the surface was damaged!

It's unlikely to be a regularly repeated flaw, as it isn't listed in SG - so it may therefore have been a 'one off' from temporary damage to the plate - perhaps some bits of dust got onto it and it wasn't cleaned properly. There are 5 other missing bits of course - on her chin, below the horizontal flag, to the L of the horizontal flag, and 2 next to her hat. On the other stamp there are 2 similar but smaller missing bits - at the top of the horizontal flag. So maybe the printers didn't have a very clean environment?

Hi David
You are probably correct, dirt on the plate, As an novice collector, I would assume that this is a common occurence?

Hi David

I took it to a stamp dealer to have a look at. He said it is an interesting variety and may bring something at auction as there are persons who collect such things.
I think I will keep it as a curiosity. Besides until I have sorted out all the accumulation I don't want to get rid of anything piecemeal
Regards
