Letter Of Introduction

Hello everyone!

Joshua McGee here. I'm a writer and computer programmer living in Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. I've collected since I was a kid in the mid 1980s (yes, I'm that young.)

My primary collections are Machins by postmark and a couple kinds of Machin booklets (namely pictorial decimal machine books and pictorial folded counter books). I also collect U.S. Scott #651 (George Rogers Clark), especially plate blocks, and create and have serviced postal art.

I'm an active blogger, a published poet and fiction writer, and a professional software engineer. My main personal site is mcgees.org, which also has a page with more info about me, should anyone care.

I found this site when user @desertgem linked to my page in a how-to post.

Greetings from a "young" collector whom also started in the 80's and shares your first name. I collect items from your area that pertain to US Highway 66 aka Route 66. I would love to see your part of the country someday while cruising along the highway.

Thank you for the welcome, everyone! Specifically to @stamperdude, marvelous to meet someone with so many similarities. :-) I drove a good distance on Route 66 this year, but didn't exactly dawdle; I left Los Angeles (alone in my car) and arrived in Burlington, Vermont 68 hours later.

Those are both very nice. I just sent off for the most recent Gettysburg Address pictorial postmark. Next year should be great because of the upcoming Civil War release. Interesting stamp chosen for the Dickens Festival postmark, very fitting.

You definitely did not dawdle on your trip, glad you took the road less traveled. It is much more scenic than the Interstate.

50th post! Thought I'd put it here to celebrate being a proper member of the site. Thank you, everyone, for the welcome, and I hope I've been able to contribute some useful stuff so far.

Edit: Wait, I didn't, did I? I said as much in the post. Now I'm confusing myself -- I had changed my mind and decided to post here before the other one I'm working on.

How about a penguin list? (Semi-sort-of-almost inside joke, trusting that any frayed nerves have since been smoothed out a little bit ....)
