Yes, it is C19, but the ink has been heavily oxidized.

This oxidization can be repaired by cleaning the stamp with a q-tip soaked in hydrogen peroxide.

Hi Khj,

I don't know why the color is like that but I like it. This stamp is different. I never saw oxydation on some part of a stamp like this one. It look like an originaly Orange Brown stamp... Funny.

This stamp is like a good wine :)

Thank you!

Hi Scott_05,

Because the price of a stamp like that is 0,25 cents... I prefer to close the book for 10 years and open it after... I think it will be a very beautiful stamp.

Thank you!

I know of some collectors who also like to set aside color changelings because of the strange and interesting color shades that come about. I remember seeing more than a few pics on SCF showing some interesting color variation/anomalies. Of special interest are fugitive inks, which slowly disappear with exposure to water/moisture. Some also like to keep color changelings "as is" for a great comparative philately conversation piece.

The half penny orange Queen Victoria Jubilee stamp has a rather spectacular color changeling. It is found as a blue green stamp. You would think that it is a completely different issue, but no. The catalogs actually mention the changeling. (Issued in 1897, I think.)

I'm afraid you have two different stamps mixed up.

The half penny QV Jubilee stamp was officially issued in 2 different colors: vermilion and blue green. There is NO color changeling from vermilion to blue green.

However, there IS a color changeling from blue green to bright blue. This only occurs on some of the blue green stamps due to a specific ink constituent used during part of the print run.

The catalog numbers for the 1/2 cent QV Jubilee issues are:

vermilion = Scott 111, Stanley Gibbons 197
blue green = Scott 125, Stanley Gibbons 213
