Swedish, 19y Old, Inheritor

Hello there. I've done quite a few posts before introducing me properly, however here I am now.

I'm 19 years old, I live on an island called Gotland in Sweden. It's located in the Baltic sea. My grandfather and my dad has always been into stamps, although years back. My grandfather lives on another island in Sweden, far away from here. He's now a bit too old to live in his old house alone, he's 92. Since noone is living in the house, we wanted to take care of things of worth, so it wouldn't be destroyed/damaged/stolen. We always knew he had VERY much stamps and many many coins, however had no clue exactly how many. My grandfather usually kept his stamps and coins hidden in many places in the house and even in the garage, playhouse, other places outside.. Many stamps and coins have been partially or completely destroyed by moisture.

We've now tried to search the house(s), looking for the stamps and coins. We've found around 25 000 coins, most hidden in boxes in the attic, or under the floorboards in the livingroom, etc. My father has sorted 23 000 of these Swedish coins. I have the job of dealing with the foreign coins, documenting, picturing and eventually selling them. I'd say we have a 90% complete set in every denomination on the Swedish section, and maybe are going to sell the duplicates, in some cases we have a few hundred duplicates of one date...

We've found a vaster amount of stamps, however it's not possible to give any exact number.. My father believes the number is around 100 000 stamps.. We have maybe, 20-25 albums with stamps, 6-8 boxes filled with mixed stamps. A few boxes that needs to be put in water a.s.o, which we've started with. His birthday present was a Electric dryer for stamps. :)

We have no idea of any worth of most of these stamps. We only have a few catalogs for the Sweden ones, maybe for Scandinavia.

I don't know what else to write now.. I started with this to help my father sort everything, however now I'm quite stuck with coins and stamps as well. I guess I will be foruming here for quite a few years more.

Hello Jimmy. Welcome to the forum. I have seen some of the scan that you have posted. Your grandfather must have really enjoyed collecting to have a collection that large. I think as you go through the sorting that you will probably find many items that you will want to save for your personal collection. As you have seen the members here enjoy seeing the collections of others and are very helpful with questions. I look forward to seeing more of this great collection.
Edit: I just finished an internet "tour" of Gotland. Absolutely beautiful and Visby's old architecture with the medieval buildings and churches is fantastic.

I have to agree, this is a lovely community.

I live a mile outside of Visby, but yes it's lovely! Even in the wintertimes.

do you mean soaking used stamps off of the paper?
You may be wanting to keep some of these on the paper depending on country and cancellations on the satmps. They may be worth more if old ones on piece as it is called.

Yes, soaking used stamps off of the paper. We're on the lookout for nicelooking cancellations and CDS on the stamps/paper.

I've noticied that quite many are interested in Swedish stamps. However I have yet to find out if we have any uncommon ones :)

It's fun but timeconsuming :)
