cdnum, Thhe red pigments in the purple inks of the late 1930's can fade from sunlight. This problem is very common on the Texas Centennial Scott 776. If you look at the right portrait (Porter) you will see the red is still in the beard. Many of the inks used in early U.S. stamps are known to fade or oxidize.
