Ok, this is my first contest. I don't like being in contests, but I have no problem setting one up Starts now and ends 6/7/08 at midnight forum time.

RULES:

(1) one point for each new person ( 0 posts) to register and post after 5/1/08 in the welcome area , mentioning your user name first. One additional point for first and second significant ( as define by forum rules) posting by same person to any forum thread.Total of 3 points possible for new person and person originally mentioned by this rule. Anyone who answers the welcome posting of the new member can also claim a point ( first answer only )

-or- if no username is mentioned in 1st post

Any new registered person after 5/1/08 can obtain 1 point for self for a welcome thread posting and an additional 1 pt. for each of the next 2 significant postings.

(2) If any non-new person ( not as above) who hasn't posted since 1/1/08, posts in any thread a significant posting( as defined by forum rules) and mentions your username, both of you get one point. If your username is not mentioned ( maybe they read this and want in) then they still get the one point) If more than 1 username mentioned, only the first gets the point. The originator of the thread also gets a point.

(3) Everyone keep track of their points and how they were received. Only a running report of each new "score" will be needed unless at the end there is controversy

REWARDS: I am starting with a small prize, but will add to it for each new member as per rule 1. SO the reward grows as the number of new members go up. I will do postage for US/CANADA/AUSTRALIA. I will try to do different areas each time I add.

If I find that I have forgotten something important, I may have to modify a rule, but the basic idea will remain. Next posting contains PRIZE 1 listing.

Since there wasn't much action under original rules, I enlarged them to allow for more claims, except the limit of multiple username mention, but all points won before the change count.

So the person who gets the most points wins all the prizes? Or is it like... 1 Prize is given out after a point is given?

In case of a tie in points, the first to get the high will win as the breaker,and I will
find something for the "broken",

TADDDDDDAHHHHHH for Australia and Territory and RED CROSS fans, and ALL others. Some off pages stamps. There are hinges on most since I removed the album side. I recommend soaking those with out gum and your choice of soaking, misting, or gently teasing on any gummed ones

The second portion of todays prizes is a group of some First Day Covers, including a gold cachet stamp on a first day cover of Adolphus W. Greely 5/28/1986 at North Pole AK.

I only have a scott's Classic ( to 1940, 52 British) so I don't know any values for many of these. If something good is there, it is Karma giving you a boost. Enjoy!

OK, Next Prize for the contest!

A mix. Sheet of 1917 Russian, explanation on sheet. 2 very UNusual Mexico stamps, and 4 Romanian . For the foreign stamp group. The Plate blocks are a little curled. I think the top Mexico is air mail, but my catalogs stop at 1940. I like the sheet the stamps are attached to more than the stamps [:)}

I think I have 3 or 4 points? I don't know how it works, could you give me a quick run through, I don't quite get the top bit? Like you get points for posting in welcome forum, and making a few posts after that?

Yes, you received by the rules, 1 point for becoming a member, and then 2 more for the next 2 posts you made, for a total of 3. The way to get more points for you are now (1) 1 point for being the first to welcome a new member when they post in the welcome thread, or (2) 1 point for being mentioned first by a new member ( 0 posts)as the person who got them to register. So maybe you can scare up new members or convince some lurkers to join up and mention you as the reason. (3) 1 point if a member who hasn't posted since the first of the year ( 1/1/08) posts and mentions you firstly.

The whole point ( excuse the pun) is to increase members and/or postings. I have been on enough forums to know that the number of diverse and numerous postings attract visitors and hopefully they will join in. Still a long ways to go. I will add the next prize as soon as I photograph them!

That Mexican stamp with the bird in a mailman's uniform is neat.
It gives new meaning to the old phrase "A little birdie told me!"

I rather liked that stamp, almost sorry I put it in but I will live! Air mail and "drop" shipment all at once.

Hi ALL, Here are the next 2 installments for the Grand Prize in the contest.

Prize A. One of those European type Booklets with stamps attached like in the APS stamp routes. This one is Russian Stamps! I can honestly say I only counted a few pages to be sure they were mainly Russian and have no idea of what period they are ( if one of my missing columbians is stuck in there, send it back please). Seems like more than 100.
