I think the first one is a box cancel (incidentally 02133, or formerly "Boston 33" is the current zip code for the Massachustets State House.) Could the second one be a handstamp precancel that was smeared?

First is definitly box. Second look like a box with vertical bar seemingly visible in the "TAG" of "POSTAGE".

Thanks for the observation. As I look at the scan closer, I wonder if the second stamp could actually be the same Boston 33 cancel as the first example, except it was smeared? It looks to be of the same size.

As long as we're on the subject of Boston precancels, can you ID for me the difference between these two Prexie Buro issues (wider margins between lines):

Both are Bureaus - the one on the left is a 811-61, the one on the right is a 810-71. Both are values at 15 cents.

Thanks for the info. Here are a couple of more ... let me try this time: I think they are a Type 42 (left) and Type 203 (right).

Am I right?

I'm starting to get it (I think)!

Now I'm sure this one is a precancel, but I can't seem to come up with a double line variety that was used in Boston. What type is it?

That is an electro line precancel. However, I have no idea on the type.

It appears to be a L-6, but I don't see the puncuation marks on your copy!

Thanks for identifying the type of this precancel. It does have the punctuation marks (,) after city; period (.) after state. The printing is just so poor it didn't show up very well on the scan.

the puncuation is very faint, but I thought I noticed a smudge of ink. Warrehouse comes to the rescue again.
