US Revenue Printing On Back Of Stamp ?

Can someone explain what I am seeing here ? There appears to be printing on the back of the $5 Conveyance Stamp. I won't seperate them due to the manuscript cancel tying them together.

This is exactly the way they are supposed to appear. In your case, the stamps were simply torn off the document they were affixed to to pay the required fees. (Looks like yours came off of a property deed.) In many cases, these stamps are later soaked off their backing paper, but in your case I can understand that you want to keep the trio intact to preserve the manuscript cancel.

To answer the OP's question, what appears to be an ornate frame printed on the back of the R89c is actually transferred from the front of the document that the stamp was adhered to.

Thanks Dan, that's what I figured but the ornate frame is the same distance from the outer edge as the ornate frame on the front of the stamp, and that made me think twice.
