This may be a dumb topic, but I've found after using my scotts catalog set this past year, that while good, it leaves out a lot. This is frustrating for someone who is not extensively versed in all the nuances of stamps and their multitude of differences. Would an investment in some Stanley Gibbons for certain countries/regions be worth buying. I found some on E-bay, not too expensive (I found some as little as $7.00 - $15.00 (u.s.$) plus shipping. It would only be for regions I have a large amount of stamps in , and I don't need the most recent catalog. 1-2 years old would be more than adequate. I didn't see any catalogs on CD, so I guess they are still in printed form? Suggestions/recommendations?

If British Commonwealth countries fit within your interests, you will really enjoy having an appropriate SG catalogue.
The big, color one-volume British Empire 1840-1970 (until recently 1840-1952) is a beauty, if that fits your interests. |

In general terms of World Wide Catalogues Michel is best overall. It will contain details that are often overlooked in Scott or SG. Even in the home country, Michel will have details on US states not in Scott, the same for the Uk not in SG. |

....I have found an improvement in tone of my biceps and pectorals, since using Stanley Gibbons.
This is a very little known fact for those of more generous years that like to keep in shape. Gibbons fails to advertise this advantage.
For the hopeless batchelor they can also be employed to press a nice sharp crease in your denims.

Another advantage of having a copy of the Gibbons Commonwealth catalogue is that collectors of most Commonwealth countries will be able to understand you. Talking Scott in these cases is about as useful speaking Sanskrit. |

So then, if we collect a certain country there is hope for us..but if we collect the world..its possible we are doomed..yes yes the Scott catalogs are only a guide...i was fortunate with Guatemala there is a great English speaking stamp society with a magazine and specialized catalogs..with more than I want to know..the APS does not have any chapters that study Argentina...perhaps I will be forced to learn philatelic Spanish ! |

Quote: perhaps I will be forced to learn philatelic Spanish That sounds like a lot of work -- I just use the TRANSLATE button on the Google Toolbar. It's not perfect, but it got me through Novato's auction site KirkS |

$15 shipped would be a fantastic deal, a steal really. $15 plus reasonable shipping would still be a very nice price. SG's ebay store has them at $15 right now, but they have to come over the pond for an additional $20-plus in shipping. |

It seems to indicate it's $15 to ship to the U.S. Are there additional fees I don't see listed here? |

SG's ebay store is 9.95 plus 15 in shipping, but both are denominated in pounds, so I'd plan on about $37 to the US. |
