I went digging through some more of dad's
stuff. I was snooping through an old book
binder he kept to mount used stamps he gathered
when young. I got to the back of the book and
noticed a CSA 10 cent. Not great shape, but
there, and certainly interesting. Doesn't look
used, but it sure isn't mint. The left/lower
half is pretty beat.

I went through many envelopes with a nice mix
of mint and used loose stamps. One had old used
stamps of various forms. However there was one
multi-colored stamp that looked too modern to be
there with the other very old single color stamps.
I can't recall if it was just very nice used, or
unused, but it just looked out of place.
Anyway, point is that I forgot which envelope and
box that was in. However, when I was going through
the old book of American issues, I saw that very
stamp towards the front of the book... not the
later years I would have expected. I couldn't find
the stamp again. The better half wanted the bed
to sleep in, so I had to clear off the boxes.

The book listed this 3c stamp (and it's entire series)
as the "first US stamps to have images other than
portraits"... It is a fairly early series.
I will look for the stamp again tomorrow if I have
a chance. But maybe someone knows the stamp I refer
to. It is 3c, has a locomotive IIRC, and is first
series with objects rather than people.

Did I find something good, or is this a common series?

Thanks
Dave

Hi Ratio411,

Sounds like it is scott # 114 ~3 cent ultramarine locomotive if it has a grill (looks like pinpoint bumps on back). I doubt seriously it is the reprint without grill #125 which is blue and very rare. It is part of the Series of 1869, which has some fantastic and expensive stamps. Unfortunately, the 3 cent is the most common.

Isn't that the usual case

Jim

Is this the one ?? 1901 Pan-American Exposition, fairly common used worth a dollar.

That's close, but it was 3c.
I want to say it was blue and red, with a
"3" on each bottom corner, like that 2c...
Unlike the single color 3c with only one
"3" centered at the bottom.

Am I just frustrating the heck out of you folks?

I still haven't found that darn stamp again.

Anything I should know about the 10c CSA?
