The only purpose of the slogan, from what I can tell, is simply to inspire more careful driving. Any other takes on it?

I suppose in those days cars were increasing in numbers and the dangers posed by "traffic" becoming more prevalent. Also the roads would be poorer and not necessarily designed for cars. I'm assuming the USA led the world in motor car production and ownership?

I wonder if it would ever be possible to find an advert cover from a mortician who had a slogan made up with the caption : "We Like To Keep Our Ears To the Ground" ? - - just kidding
