Help With Pre Printed Glassines

I have just read a thread in the "Members Wanting to Sell" section and was surprised that pre printed glassine envelopes are collected. I have a bunch of them with the original contents still in them.

Could someone give me an idea of the value of a pre printed glassine with the original stamps in them? Or does anyone possibly know of a website that has some helpful info?

Must admit I too was surprised to find glasssines are collected. I have come across a few in old auction lots (with British dealer names) and haven't paid them any attention. Is this just a US collecting thing or is it more widespread? If so I will sort out what I have for future reference.
Londonbus1, you seem to be the man for this query, judging by the other post.

I have alot of them too from several different companies. Most have no stamps within. I'm interested in what kind of value they have. Some of the stamp firms are no longer in business.

I collect glassines without stamps. Also glassine bags from Postal Authorities but the collection is very much in it's infancy.
It's also only for fun, I don't think the glassines have much value and the packet shown by Lucky is most likely not worth more than the mint stamps contained therein.

Having said that, I would keep the stamps and glassines together if it was me who had them.

Let me know if there is a couple of Countries you might need for your glassine collection(Chad? Dubai? Burundi? etc???). I would love to do some trading.

I have also come across old glassines going through lots, and have put aside a few old pre-printed glassines from dealers. I reckoned someone was guaranteed to collect them, after all we collect the weirdest things.

Yeah, don't we.

The most unusual I have come across is the collection
of the little squares on postcards, where it states
'affix stamps here' with a monogram or makers name.

Gee, when I think of the number of the glasines I just threw away many years ago. I mounted the stamps and didn't think any more about what they came in. Who knew?

I don't feel collecting Glassines is so weird.
I became interested a while ago when I realised I had so many with ads or dealers names.
So it became a fun sideline, like many other things. I don't go searching for them, I wouldn't know where to look, but they always popping up or being offered by kind folk on forums like ours.
I recently made two nice exchanges with Dianne and Edwin [Heh! Where is Edwin?], stamps for glassines.

When I was younger, I collected Beer mats, the kind you get in Pubs and Bars. I never paid for any of them, just 'borrowed' them !
I built up quite a collection, some [as it turned out] quite scarce.
When I left the UK for warmer climes, something had to go. And so I said goodbye to the Beer Mats. But I managed to sell them for quite a decent price and the buyer told me about how big a hobby it is.
There are even clubs with meetings, although I have never read about any.

So anything and everything appears collectable.
at some point in the future, when my collection goes elsewhere, someone might just take a look at my albums of Glassines and remark, "That's just what I've been looking for".

Londonbus, a friend of mine had the same approach to collecting beer glass, he just "borrowed" it from pubs as well.
