This one has me stumped. I cannot find it and my French isn't good enough to read the stamp. I believe it belongs in the Back of the Book, but I don't know where. Perforations are hurting but I don't have another one so it's a keeper. Any one know this stamp?

Also a French revenue. Revenue collectors are often more forgiving of the odd nibbled perf or corner than is your typical "stamp" collector, so don't feel bad keeping it around. A lot of revenues led a tougher life than their postal cousins.
[edit: We will need the catalogue, but we may find this one dates to 1871.] |

Thanks Cjd, maybe Rod222 can find this one too. You guys are the best help I have had in thirty years. Don't know why I couldn't find something like this earlier. If I can help with anything, let me know, but you guys appear to have the World BOB down pat. |

Thanks for the tip Rod. I went to check out acquittances in the search. Unfortunately none of them looked like mine and the only catalog references I found were the four pages that you scanned from your Forbin catalog for other people (one of them being me - thanks). |

Hello Jhlovell and Welcome! I have this stamp as well. Here's a scan showing my stamp along with a page I found looking around online for info regarding it. I started to cut and paste scans of my stamps onto the pages of info regarding them (especially the hard to find ones) kind of a database. Lucky |

OK then France : Revenue Engraved by Eugène Andre Oudine (1810-1887) The correct name for the "dark net shading" is "burelage" and if you search this SCF archive you will see lots of beautiful and artful examples (an anti forgery device) Part1 Part2 |

The last date I see for a Kremer catalogue of French revenues is 1962. Is that correct? (Not that there is anything wrong with that.) |

Puzzler, I just use the basic Paint program that came with the computer. Nothing fancy, just save the web image to a folder on your computer, scan your stamp into the computer, open up the saved web image using MS Paint program and then minimize the screen, open up your stamp scan with Paint and use select tool to frame around stamp image and the cut or copy it, then close that window and maximize other paint window and right click on screen, click on paste, pick it up and position it where you want the pasted stamp image to be and save it. Voila
Paint also works great for making the file size smaller (under the 100 limit for posting scanned files). I just open the scan with Paint and click on the word "Image" (located on toolbar - top of page) then click on resize/skew and put 50 in first box and 50 in next box and hit enter (if I wanted to reduce size by half). It reduces the file size without distorting it but make sure both horizontal and vertical % are the same amount.

thanks for the scans, lessons, welcomes and information from all of you. I search forever for some little scrap of information and then I fine this forum and a plethora of interested and fun participants. Rod, send me your address on my normal email and I will work how to get the Edward VII cut square you were looking at. Thanks again to everyone, I will continue to post my "what the heck is this" set of stamps. Someday there will be an orange skelling. |

It makes it nice to group things because you can cut and paste and add more info. Example: Here's another one Lucky |
