I'm sorry to say my attention to this forum has been fleeting at best. It looks like I joined in January 2009, re-introduced myself in January 2010, and am now doing it again in 2011. Is it winter that makes me turn to the stamps?
This year is different because I face the prospect of more free time to devote to my hobbies as I am retiring the end of February.
So -- I'll say the same thing I said last time. I am not an experienced stamp collector. I only started a few years ago, and my collection is strictly topical -- stamps with American flags on them, even if the flag is not the main motif. For me, a stamp qualifies even if the flag is just in the background or flying above a building or is a patch on an astronaut's sleeve. I've been concentrating on U.S. stamps, but I do find a few foreign ones from time to time.
I am hoping to learn a lot by paying attention here.
Jan
P.S. Just checked my profile -- says I joined in January 2008. I'm worse than I thought I was.

Welcome back Jan,
I'm wondering, how many stamps in your USA Flag collection now?

Good question, Dave. I just checked the spreadsheet that lists all the ones I know of. After subtracting the ones listed in red (which means I don't own those yet) and I came up with 157. That surprised me a little. I didn't think it was that many.

No apologies necessary.
I have a similar history and pattern -- seems I spend more time with stamps and SCF during the winter months.
That's the beauty of an online forum -- if we had a local club with 20 or even 50 members, our monthly meetings would be small because someone always has a conflict. But with SCF, there are enough members that there are always 20 or 25 of us online at any given point in time. And of course, dozens more who check in when it's convenient.
I like the counters on the threads that tell how many people have responded, and more interestingly to me, how many have viewed the thread -- whether or not they reply.
Anyway, it's great to have you here - as much as you can when you have time.

Welcome back to the fold. As a flag collector have you checked with what the American Topical Association to offer? There may be a checklist already or you may be able to develop one to contribute to the community. Just a thought.... |

Jan, welcome back again, again and again. I'm retired so I can guarantee that you will have the time to enjoy your collection and spend hours reading the multitude of posts on this website. Regards Mike |
