I don't have too many DPO precancels, but here's one from Cornwells Heights, Pennsylvania that is arguably a DPO in a most populated area (suburb of Philadelphia). I think it's a Type 726:

I hadn't really thought about the precancels I have in regards to being from Dead Post Office's. I know I have a few in my Route 66 collection that would qualify as a DPO. I imagine we are going to have quite a few more with the possibility of so many PO's closing soon.

IF the USPS follows through with the plan to close 2500 post offices, this is going to be a growth area!

I don't collect precancels, but I enjoy following these threads. Thanks to everyone for the active dialog and content.

Nice collection of DPO's.

Thought I'd comment on the following:

Quote:
Two Bluffs, Wis 714

I think you'll find that DPO to be Twin Bluffs, Wisconsin. Still a DPO, though.

I'm also quite intrigued by the Victory, VT precancel, only because Wiki shows the following as to its population ... has got to be one of the smallest, I imagine:

Quote:
Victory is a town in Essex County, Vermont, United States. The population was 97 at the 2000 census.

Also, I pulled this off a web site. Apparently the post office at Victory, VT was popular with special postmarks at the end of WWII ... the seller currently has this one on the market for $50, so it must be relatively rare, I imagine:

Found a couple of more DPO precancels:

Stamp #1 is Arlington, CA (Type 466) - DPO 1960
Stamps #2-3 are both Desert Springs, CA (both Types 734) - DPO 1959

Keep in mind that not all DPO's are true DPO's.
Many DPO's are PO's that became subordinate to a larger one.
This most often occurred in large metropolitan areas.
