Can anyone help me with catalog number and near value on this Registration stamp from Canada. And maybe someone can read the script. I get the 5 and what looks like "evire" and the bottom ends "tz". Any help would be appreciated. - Jeff

5 Avril (April 5) It's a Province of Quebec Registration Stamp - Revenue stamp. Issue of 1871, I believe, #QR 8 in Holmes Specialized. I can't supply a current Value, I am afraid.

In E.S.J. Van Dam catalogue for Canadian Revenue stamps it is listed as 'QR5', and in 1991 it had a cat. price of $2.00 unused and $0.25 for used.

Although this is a price 20 years old, I doubt if the price as raised dramatically as it is quite a common stamp.

Holmes Specialized Philatelic Catalogue of Canada and British North America.

A mouthful! Mine is Hardback, 11th Edition, 1968 Ryerson Press, Toronto. I don't know if it's still in print but I doubt it. I find it very good for Revenues especially.

Guesstimation.
The clerk has written 5 for 5c? or whatever,
and signed the document to which the stamp was attached..
What you see is the stamps contribution.

always wishing for the rest of the story. Learned my lesson about soaking along time ago. Now all I do is go and soak my head every so often when my wife tells me to.
